Welcome to Cedar Creek Lake
Located approximately 50 miles southeast of Dallas, Cedar Creek Lake is popular with Dallas/Fort Worth residents seeking a waterfront community with a close commute from DFW. Because of its affordability, amenities, and location, the lake area is also becoming a popular option for buyers from as far away as California and even Canada. Whether you are looking for a second or “weekend” home or planning to move here permanently, the area offers amenities that cater to both lifestyles. The lake is also home to a large retirement population and buyers looking to purchase homes for vacation rentals. Located around the lake are 12 towns, and within these communities are over 300 subdivisions offering buyers of all price ranges a wide variety of choices. And best of all, Cedar Creek Lake is one of the few lakes in Texas that allows property ownership of the waterfront with the ability to have your own private boathouse. In addition to waterfront properties, the lake area also offers many lovely off-water homesites and beautiful east Texas acreage properties. Cedar Creek Lake is surrounded by all sizes and types of acreage from small “ranchettes” to hundreds of acres for farming, ranching, or just a place to four wheel, fish, and hunt.
Completed in 1965 as a water reservoir for Tarrant County, Cedar Creek Lake is owned and operated by the Tarrant Regional Water District. It is the fourth largest lake in Texas with 320 miles of shoreline, 32,873 acres, and is 18 miles long. It is 8.5 miles at its widest point and 53 feet at its deepest. This makes the lake perfect for all kinds of water sports and year-round fishing. Fishing tournaments are numerous here, but many prefer to just throw a line off their boat dock and take in the sun (or a little nap). There are several fishing guides who can help novices or those just wanting to gain more local fishing knowledge. Kayaks, paddleboards, personal watercraft, and all kinds of power boats can be seen on the lake at any given time. We even have a Yacht club for the sailors at heart.
A popular spring and summer destination, Lone Star Marina offers boat and PWC rentals. Vernon’s Lakeside and Tiki Hut offer two wonderful choices for lakeside dining accessible by boat or car. Don’t miss the annual July 4th air show and fireworks celebration at the Pinnacle Club—it’s free by boat. There are several waterfront communities offering golf course and country club amenities, as well as public golf courses. Cedar Creek Lake offers lake homes and waterfront lots to fit any budget, from the low 100,000s to multi-millions.
While many “weekenders” and “full-timers” come to Cedar Creek Lake to relax and escape hectic life in the city, they also like the convenience of local grocery stores and a wide selection of casual restaurants and boutique shops. Enjoy a wonderful experience dining under the stars sipping local wine and listening to live music at Tara Winery in Athens and Triple N Ranch Winery in Trinidad. The award-winning Cedar Creek Brewery in Seven Points offers craft beer and outdoor seating and often features live music. Waves Lounge with inside and courtyard seating in Gun Barrel City offers cocktails and gourmet lite bites with courtyard seating. Whistlestop Café in Trinidad, The Dock, and Simple Thyme Bistro + Market in Malakoff are 3 of Cedar Creek Lake’s newest restaurants offering great food and atmosphere. For healthy options, check out the Lemon Wagon in Malakoff. There are several restaurants offer Mexican food and barbeque, including B4 barbeque, where people are known to drive in from Dallas just to pick up lunch. For home décor, clothing, accessories and gifts, check out the boutiques at WHaus, Wallz, and Vanilla Fringe in Gun Barrel City, The Nest in Historic Downtown Mabank, Lakehouse Outfitters in Log Cabin, and Opal & Viv’s in Malakoff. For a frozen treat, stop at Daiquiri Daze in Seven Points and LouLou’s on the bridge between Gun Barrel City and Seven Points. Other lake area amenities include an eight-screen movie theater and Whatz Up Family Fun Park with go carts, paddle boats, miniature golf, laser tag, paint ball, climbing wall, batting cages, bumper cars, and more. Kids of all ages will enjoy driving through Rocky Ridge Safari in Eustace. We have two libraries, a rodeo arena, and many local festivals throughout the year. My children were involved in Little League and school sports, cheer, drill team, choir, band, and Future Farmers of America. Canton, home of “First Monday Trade Days,” is about 30 minutes from the lake. Athens is also about 30 minutes from Cedar Creek Lake with a Brewery, Winery, and more restaurants, including a local favorite, the Boathouse Bar and Grill on Lake Athens.
The small towns of Ben Wheeler and Edom are about 40 minutes away, featuring several festivals throughout the year and are home to local artist shops and galleries. The Four Winds Steakhouse in Wills Point offers casual fine dining and beautiful acreage views.
